About a Boy

by Nick Hornby

Nick Hornby's second bestselling novel is about sex, manliness and fatherhood. Will is thirty-six, comfortable and child-free. And he's discovered a brilliant new way of meeting women - through single-parent groups. Marcus is twelve and a little bitnerdish: he's got the kind of mother who made him listen to Joni Mitchell rather than Nirvana. Perhaps they can help each other out a little bit,... (read more)

I literally finished this one minute ago. I started readin this book beause I've read Slam and How To Be Good, and my dad really likes Nick Hornby, and we tend to like a lot of the same things. I get why he likes him.

The book was really funny, and the characters were brilliant, if a little unrealistic. But it's a remarkable book, and I'm looking forward to watching the movie adaptation.

What fun! Light, frothy, no substance, but I actually laughed out loud. Ridiculous storyline - living off your father's famous song, being 36 and no job.

Marcus is a great character, Will is plain silly and Fiona is so well drawn.

I will have to read more of Hornby's books.

This book has some of the wittiest dialog I've read in a long time. I loved the relationship between Will and Marcus and the plot just shines. Made me fondly remember my time in England and the music scene in the early 90s

Really enjoyed this one; it's plenty funny, but also made me think about myself, relationships and my friends and family. It's a rare book where the movie is as good as the book (although I enjoyed the book's ending better).
