“Well, I certainly enjoyed this book more than City of Fallen Angels. However, there were still things that I didn’t like but overall, City of Lost Souls got me interested in this series again.
Let’s start with the good things first. I haven’t read a Cassandra Clare book in over a year so I have forgotten how beautiful her writing style is. She just has this way with words that leaves you breathless. The characters went through a lot of character development especially Clary, Simon, Jace, Isabelle and Alec. I really liked the friendship between Isabelle and Clary. I hope we get to see more of that in the next book. Luke is my favourite character from this series in case you’re wondering. I love him even though his scenes were quite small and rare. Sebastian is one creepy villain. Just typing his name makes me cringe. I don’t understand how the majority of the fandom worships him. It does not make sense at all.
Let’s not forget all those hot and steamy make-out scenes from almost all the couples. Wow. Clare really knows how to write them. I know that some of you might not agree with me but I felt that sometimes these scenes were just too much?? Like for Maia and Jordan, their plot-line (aside from saving Luke) wasn’t really relevant to the overall plot.
Now for the things that I didn’t like, first, the plot that simply revolves around Jace. Man, this guy can’t get a break, can he? With all this stuff happening to him, I can’t help but feel bad for him. While there’s nothing wrong with Jace being the centre of the plot, it got boring after a while. This is one of the things that made me lose my interest in CoFA. Second, while I loved Clare’s writing style, sometimes, it was just too descriptive and too detailed. I often skipped long paragraphs. :/
Surprisingly, I look forward to reading the last book. Can’t wait to see how it ends.

“All over in this series I find little things that annoy me and little things that I really like, so it's kind of a rollercoaster to read. But this one is the most thrilling rollercoaster ride jet!”Hanne wrote this review 2 weeks ago. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“The reason why I gave it a 4 out of 5 stars is because I felt like it just kept on dragging on about how Clary couldn't survive without Jace and how she would do anything for him AND ON AND ON AND ON, I did not want to read the book anymore if she repeated that another 500 times. But other than that I loved it! It had action, I thought it was fairly funny and it left a good enough impression on me for me to want to read the last book of the series.”Bryanne Hang wrote this review Friday, September 27, 2013.
