So I started reading this at nearly midnight last night, thinking that I would just read a chapter or so and then head off to bed. That...didn't happen. I couldn't put it down (just one more chapter...no, just one MORE chapter) I one more chaptered myself through the whole thing. :D

It will never be a literary classic taught at universities or anything, but it is well written with likable characters and a fun plot. The mythology is a neat twist, and it is revealed at a nice tempo, with no massive info dumps. I just saw that there is a sequel Frostbite coming out on April 10. I will absolutely be getting it!

well personally i thought that it didn't have that good of details and that things happened too fast. Like when at the end the girl turned stragoi and then Dimitri came and killed her so it just happened too fast. However i love the second book and so far the third.

He's being ironic. She says "thanks for the books" then adds "the ones from the attic", or some other mention, I don't remember well. But since those were the ONLY books, it was pretty obvious that she meant THOSE, so her further explanation was obsolete. That's why Christian makes his remark, it's something like "oh, thank you, captain obvious!"

I love the story line but I don't like that there is so much swearing and S*x talk. It was disturbing. I dont think I will be reading the second one.

      M

Are you serious? You call THIS swearing and sex talk? And why do you feel the need to censor the word "sex"? It's not a swear word. How old are you really? What world do you live in? Have you only read children books so far?
It's a book about Vampires, so it's actually pretty mellow if I might say. Unless you think Vampire universes are suppose to be like Stephenie Meyer depicts them, which is all bunnies and rainbows and no sex before marriage etc. Try reading Charlaine Harris, you'd be shocked.
I am honestly not a fan of gratuitous violence, swearing or obscenity, but this book is innocent as far as all that is concerned. The things that bothered you are the same things that make the characters seem realistic and interesting, instead of boring, far-fetched and annoying.

How much swearing is there? It sounds like a really good book, but I don't really like excessive obscenity. How bad is it? How many f words, and d*mn words, and sh*t words are there? And how bad is the s*x talk?

I loved it. Rose was particularly funny but I agree that she kind of looks like Angelina Jolie on the cover. I think this book is better than Twilight as it has more twists and turns and I particularly like how the author doesn't go on about how good looking Dimitri is, which was my main problem with Twilight. Looking forward to reading the next one, 'Frostbite'.

This book is awesome! I was shocked, because the book wasn't what I thought it would be (ex: like the House of Night series, and thank God it wasn't). I loved Rose, who was a very strong character, and Dimitri too. I also loved the strong bond of friendship that Rose and Lissa have together. If you like any paranormal romance or paranormal YA books, you should pick this book up right now.
    I highly recommend it!

I dont see the issues with the sex, drinking and swearing....thats what young adults do. *reality check*
that was my biggest problem with twilight, all the teens r to goody and innocent thats so unrealistic.

    posted 4 years ago.
    • Angelika

      Angelika

Maybe it is what young adults do - but not all young adults. Many people can get a point across using words other than f*ck. It's just trashy. And second of all, not all teens have sex. It's always portrayed as a fantastic thing were you don't get diseases or pregnancies. But some of us are smart enough to realize that it's much better to skip out on it. And the drinking...that just shows how irresponsible people think teenagers are. Sure some are total foul-mouthed, alcoholic sluts, but most of us aren't that bad. If Richelle Mead has this terrible view of teenagers in her mind, I feel sorry for her. She needs to get past the stereotypes and see what we're really like. And you also Ashleigh. I feel a little bad that you think this is normal and good behavior for a teenager. Maybe it's the friends you hang out with. Either way I think you should step out of your little bubble and see that the rest of us aren't bad people.

      Juliana C

Yeah, angelika has a great point. Not all teenagers are like that. But I think that Rose was portrayed as a "party girl" at first so that you could see that she really was changing and becoming more mature in her training. The teens were a little more realistic in this book though. Do I think that this book is better than Twilight? No. I think I like them both the same.

    • AshTree

      AshTree

Bad people. Are you saying, that all the teenagers that go to parties and drink with friends and have sex with there boyfriends are bad people. See now it seems your the one who is stereotyping. Sorry no i dont hang out with the church group teens that save themselves for marriage. Yes there are some teenagers who go around acting trashy and slutty but dont put them all in the same group. When i said "thats what young adults do" i apologise i should have said thats what a lot of young adults do. But in the book as juliana c said, Rose and the teens in this book are portrayed as the partying type and i think that Richelle Mead was realistic in the way she portrayed them.......As far as swearing goes, im an aussie and every aussie teenager i know uses a swear word in every sentence when we talk to each other but we still know how to show respect for people. So maybe you need to step out of your little bubble, go to a party, have a drink and realise teenagers that go out and have fun arent bad people and its just the few idiots and sluts that give them a bad rep.

Twilight series is awesome, I thought at first that it was the greatest series I've ever read but after I've read this book/ series, I've noticed that twilight was just plain romance, true it does have actions but only in the latter part of the book while in vampire academy you seemed to be intrigued with this whole new vampire world. I think the speaking lines were and the character of Edward were the ones that captivated the readers in twilight I also think that if they would also make a movie out of this series, it would be better than twilight.

There are talks of a movie being possibly made, yes. Preger Entertainment has picked up the option of Vampire Academy... and is now currently trying to sell it to a studio. There is not a script written yet. There aren't actors cast yet. However, hopes are real high among thousands of fans on Facebook (if you're a member there, join the Official Vampire Academy movie page or Richelle Mead's page to get all the news on this) and things are looking reallly really good right now with a major possibility of a movie in the very near future. :)
