So I started reading this at nearly midnight last night, thinking that I would just read a chapter or so and then head off to bed. That...didn't happen. I couldn't put it down (just one more chapter...no, just one MORE chapter) I one more chaptered myself through the whole thing. :D
It will never be a literary classic taught at universities or anything, but it is well written with likable characters and a fun plot. The mythology is a neat twist, and it is revealed at a nice tempo, with no massive info dumps. I just saw that there is a sequel Frostbite coming out on April 10. I will absolutely be getting it!
well personally i thought that it didn't have that good of details and that things happened too fast. Like when at the end the girl turned stragoi and then Dimitri came and killed her so it just happened too fast. However i love the second book and so far the third.
yeah...each book gets better - i would definitely recommend reading the rest of it (she is still writing the fourth book and I think is planning a fifth one too)
read all three in my opinion... i loved them all the 4th one comes out in august and i can't wait
At first I thought the model on the cover was Angelina Jolie, and I did a double-take, only to realize that it's not her, but some very close look-alike! I might read this book.
i loved theses books and if you haven't read them and you like vamps then i sugguest it...there are three, this is the first one...vamp academy, frostbite and shadow kiss...they are really good...
a quite bit different from twilight, but they are really good and hard to put down.
I loved this book. It was a bit slow in the start, but soon I couldn't put it down and I can say that I am in love with Dimitri! I wish he would just open up to her more!!

Yeah the 1st was not my fav. I'm almost finished with the 3rd, the series does get better with each book.
I dont understand when rose is thanking christian for getting the books from the church attic and she says "thanks for the books" and christian said "Oh, i thought you meant the other books." and she thought, smart ass. What did he mean by "Other books" i don't get it!
he was just being a smartass. there was no other books.
He's being ironic. She says "thanks for the books" then adds "the ones from the attic", or some other mention, I don't remember well. But since those were the ONLY books, it was pretty obvious that she meant THOSE, so her further explanation was obsolete. That's why Christian makes his remark, it's something like "oh, thank you, captain obvious!"
I love the story line but I don't like that there is so much swearing and S*x talk. It was disturbing. I dont think I will be reading the second one.
Are you serious? You call THIS swearing and sex talk? And why do you feel the need to censor the word "sex"? It's not a swear word. How old are you really? What world do you live in? Have you only read children books so far?
It's a book about Vampires, so it's actually pretty mellow if I might say. Unless you think Vampire universes are suppose to be like Stephenie Meyer depicts them, which is all bunnies and rainbows and no sex before marriage etc. Try reading Charlaine Harris, you'd be shocked.
I am honestly not a fan of gratuitous violence, swearing or obscenity, but this book is innocent as far as all that is concerned. The things that bothered you are the same things that make the characters seem realistic and interesting, instead of boring, far-fetched and annoying.
How much swearing is there? It sounds like a really good book, but I don't really like excessive obscenity. How bad is it? How many f words, and d*mn words, and sh*t words are there? And how bad is the s*x talk?
it was a good book. iti really wasnt realistic with the rose dimitri thing cause i know hes supposed to be hott but come on how does her best friend not even know a little. rose made it pretty obvious even the old man fifures it out
I loved it. Rose was particularly funny but I agree that she kind of looks like Angelina Jolie on the cover. I think this book is better than Twilight as it has more twists and turns and I particularly like how the author doesn't go on about how good looking Dimitri is, which was my main problem with Twilight. Looking forward to reading the next one, 'Frostbite'.
This book is awesome! I was shocked, because the book wasn't what I thought it would be (ex: like the House of Night series, and thank God it wasn't). I loved Rose, who was a very strong character, and Dimitri too. I also loved the strong bond of friendship that Rose and Lissa have together. If you like any paranormal romance or paranormal YA books, you should pick this book up right now.
I highly recommend it!
this series is awesome, i think its way better and more exciting than twilight.
Rose is HOT!!! and feisty.
Mason *tear*
Cant wait for the next one.
I dont see the issues with the sex, drinking and swearing....thats what young adults do. *reality check*
that was my biggest problem with twilight, all the teens r to goody and innocent thats so unrealistic.
Maybe it is what young adults do - but not all young adults. Many people can get a point across using words other than f*ck. It's just trashy. And second of all, not all teens have sex. It's always portrayed as a fantastic thing were you don't get diseases or pregnancies. But some of us are smart enough to realize that it's much better to skip out on it. And the drinking...that just shows how irresponsible people think teenagers are. Sure some are total foul-mouthed, alcoholic sluts, but most of us aren't that bad. If Richelle Mead has this terrible view of teenagers in her mind, I feel sorry for her. She needs to get past the stereotypes and see what we're really like. And you also Ashleigh. I feel a little bad that you think this is normal and good behavior for a teenager. Maybe it's the friends you hang out with. Either way I think you should step out of your little bubble and see that the rest of us aren't bad people.
Ange
Yeah, angelika has a great point. Not all teenagers are like that. But I think that Rose was portrayed as a "party girl" at first so that you could see that she really was changing and becoming more mature in her training. The teens were a little more realistic in this book though. Do I think that this book is better than Twilight? No. I think I like them both the same.
I like them both the same way, but totally this was as good as twilight. I agree with juliana c
Bad people. Are you saying, that all the teenagers that go to parties and drink with friends and have sex with there boyfriends are bad people. See now it seems your the one who is stereotyping. Sorry no i dont hang out with the church group teens that save themselves for marriage. Yes there are some teenagers who go around acting trashy and slutty but dont put them all in the same group. When i said "thats what young adults do" i apologise i should have said thats what a lot of young adults do. But in the book as juliana c said, Rose and the teens in this book are portrayed as the partying type and i think that Richelle Mead was realistic in the way she portrayed them.......As far as swearing goes, im an aussie and every aussie teenager i know uses a swear word in every sentence when we talk to each other but we still know how to show respect for people. So maybe you need to step out of your little bubble, go to a party, have a drink and realise teenagers that go out and have fun arent bad people and its just the few idiots and sluts that give them a bad rep.
OMG... this book is awesome... i love mason... i'm not interested with Dimitri 'cause his old, i prefer Mason for Rose but in frosbite, Mason died because of saving Rose..huhu :(... I like Rose, she's flirty and hot..lol..
in the first place i'm not interested in this book but as i read the book the more i'm interested in knowing what will be the end of this story...
And i'm now reading the last book in this series which is "Shadow - Kiss".... :)
there are gomnig to be six books
#4- blood promise
#5- untitled
#6-= untitled
demitri 'dies' so rose ends up having to kill him teat i [3 him!
Twilight series is awesome, I thought at first that it was the greatest series I've ever read but after I've read this book/ series, I've noticed that twilight was just plain romance, true it does have actions but only in the latter part of the book while in vampire academy you seemed to be intrigued with this whole new vampire world. I think the speaking lines were and the character of Edward were the ones that captivated the readers in twilight I also think that if they would also make a movie out of this series, it would be better than twilight.
I feel the same way! This book is more intense. You never know where the books are going to take you - and you should defintiely continue reading the series because it only gets better!
I agree!!!!!!!!!!
Twilight had no plot at all and this book . . .wow! I loved it! I finished it in less than 24 hours! Again, all I can say is "Wow!"
Does any1 no the 12 royal families i looked in all the books and cant find anymore i have 7.
The families are The Badicas, The Dragomirs, The Zeklos. The Ivashkovs, The Drozdovs, The Contas, The Ozeras, The Dashkovs, The Vodas, The Sarcozys, The Lazars....I don't think the T was ever mentioned...not yet, at least, but for all we know, it's Roza's dad's last name....not like we would know that yet! We'll have to wait for Blood Promise and Spirit Bound!

And I regret reading so fast, because it is taking forever it seems for the last book to come out! Rose and Dimitri HAVE to be together. I was disappointed in Rose for not following through and killing him. but what can you say.. She loves him, and part of her cant let him go. I hope that Rose can bring him back. Her and Liss :)
THIS IS REALLY THE BEST BOOK EVER I LOVED IT AND I WILL TOTALY SUGGEST IT TO ANY OF MY FRIENDS ITS REALLY GOOD AND PEOPLE WOULD REALLY LIKE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this book is amazing and i love it. this book is filled with intent words deeply describing the life of a brave vampire and her "life" all girls who love vampire books should read this series of books. This is so amazing it makes me want to be like one of them and i know its fiction but its still fun to pretend to be what your not and see through her cold deadish vampire eyes. i recomend this to all girls who love this kind of book and would die to read it ;)
This series is perfect for teens and even adults will enjoy it. Featuring a strong and independent heroine and her best friend who capture the reader with their unique relationship make this series unteresting. In conclusion, I LOVE THIS SERIES, i cant wait until the next book comes out.

You should definitely read this, in my opinion, it's way better than Twilight or the House of Night series.
Does anyone know if they plan to make a movie or show of this? I really think they should. It's the best vampire story I've ever read/seen.
have you read twilight. I haven't read this book is it better than the twilight seres
Hey. I don't know if you've gotten a response to your question here or not yet.
There are talks of a movie being possibly made, yes. Preger Entertainment has picked up the option of Vampire Academy... and is now currently trying to sell it to a studio. There is not a script written yet. There aren't actors cast yet. However, hopes are real high among thousands of fans on Facebook (if you're a member there, join the Official Vampire Academy movie page or Richelle Mead's page to get all the news on this) and things are looking reallly really good right now with a major possibility of a movie in the very near future. :)
And I agree. Vampire Academy is the best. :)
lol, this is amazing and if they do make a movie a will have an brain explosion or happiness!!!!!!!!!
So, what are these books truly about? I was thinking about reading them, but I didn't quite understand the descripition. Can anybody help me out?

This book starts out in Portland,Oregon where the 17 year old Rose Hathaway and her best friend Lissa Dragomir are hiding away from St.Valdimir Academey's gardians. You see Lissa is a moroi princess, -the last surviing dagomir in the bloodline- a moroi is a vampire but they dont kill humans while feeding if they did they would become strigoi immortal killing machinces. Rose is a dhimpir -Half Moroi, half human- and is gonna be her gardian soon. When the God-like fighting machine Dimitri brings them back to the academey Rose learns that he is assinged to be Lissa gardian when she graduates, she isnt happy. Her only hope is to tell them about her bond with Lissa which allows her to feel what Lissa is and to work harder than she ever has to graduate. When she discovers that making up for two years will be harder than she though even with extra traning with Dimitri. Plus Christian Ozera -a smug dark boy whos parents intentinly became strigoi- starts getting a little too close to Lissa. So many things are going wrong Lissa is getting agrier the more of her compulsion - the ability to tell people what to do or beileve- she has to use on the people who beileve the lie that a nasty girl Mia spreads about Rose. Lissa's depresion is comming back and she is cutting again. Rose will either have to get her away from the Achedamey or get her away from the powers that cause the dark thoughts that are stiring in her head.
Wow this looks like a good book! Did you like it? What was your favorite part? I might have to read this!!
i loved it i was hooked! my favorite part was when Lissa goes up in the attic of the church for the first time since they came back.
