This is a fun easy read. Almost all historical fiction holds my interest, particularly English history. The characters are predictable but the story itself is enjoyable. When I finished I was excited for the next book. There is something about being carried far away by a book.

This is the first in a 3 book series about Anne de Bohun during the reign of Edward IV. In this novel we follow Anne's life from a servant girl to the Merchant Matthew Cuttifer where she meets the King. Her skills with healing herbs help her rise and eventually lead her to become one of the Queen's personal servants. The author pays great attention to the detail of court dress and paints a very vivid picture of 15th century England. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next in the series.

I really enjoyed this first book in this series. I was a bit disappointed that Anne is a fictionalized character, but the story was still intriguing. I liked the first book in the series a lot better than the second one.

I found this book to be very edgy. I love historical fiction and I fell in love with these characters. There is a lot of graphic material, but I found that it gave it some of it's appeal. It's story line had me crying, laughing and at some points gripped with terror. I love an emotional roller coaster.

The first book of a three part series. If you like Philippa Gregory's works you will love these!

Great start to a trilogy. One of those books you just can't put down.

Set in 1450 this is the story of Anne, a young servant girl who has a way with healing herbs. She is beautiful but kind and while caring for her mistress she becomes well known for her healing powers. When the Queen takes ill, Anne is summoned to the palace, where she becomes a body servant to Queen Elizabeth, wife of Edward IV. When he casts his roaming eye on Anne, a set of circumstances is set into motion that threatens to destroy the fragile new Kingship.

This story is filled with secrets, treachery, intrigue and murder. Although the language was not as authentic to the times as it could have been, that actually made the story easier to read. I also needed to check my dictionary a number of times, because the descriptions of medieval clothing sparked my interest. My major complaint is that at times the story was a bit too ‘romancy’ for my tastes.

Be warned that this book is the first in a trilogy. Although the story has an ending, the many loose threads are not tied up, and that can prove a little frustrating. However I already have The Exiled, book #2 on my TBR pile, so after a short break I will be back to find out how some of those issues are resolved.

If you are a fan of Philippa Gregory you will enjoy this book.

I enjoyed this book enough to buy the second. I like the plot and characters but it looses me in the next book. I may or may not get the third.. It just doesn't compell me to care enough

I really enjoyed this book and became absorbed in the story. I was a bit put off by the sadistic relationship between two of the secondary characters, but the second half of the book didn't include anything along those lines and the sequels haven't, either. A very good series. I recommend it for anyone who loves historical novels.

    Book Description
The year is 1450, a dangerous time in medieval Britain. Civil unrest is at its peak and the legitimacy of the royal family is suspect. Meanwhile, deep in the forests of western England, a baby is born. Powerful forces plot to kill both mother and child, but somehow the newborn girl survives. Her name is Anne.

Fifteen years later, England emerges into a fragile but hopeful new age, with the charismatic young King Edward IV on the throne. Anne, now a young peasant girl, joins the household of a wealthy London merchant. Her unusual beauty provokes jealousy, lust, and intrigue, but Anne has a special quality that saves her: a vast knowledge of healing herbs. News of her extraordinary gift spreads, and she is called upon to save the ailing queen. Soon after, Anne is moved into the palace, where she finds her destiny with the man who will become the greatest love of her life -- the king himself.

People have told me that I would definitely love this series so after I finally managed to get my hands on all 3 of the books I started to read.

To be honest, I think the first book is the lesser of the 3. I did enjoy it but it felt a bit too romantically for me. I love historical Fiction but prefer the history more than the romance.
all in all I did enjoy it and afterwards I was curious what would happen to the main character so props for the author.
