- Ainsley Douglas: A widow. She is referred to as Mrs. John Douglas or Ainsley. She is one of the Queen's women.
- Lord Cameron Mackenzie: Second of the Mackenzie brothers. Cam was married young. His wife committed suicide and his brothers have helped him rear his son Daniel, now 16. Trains horses, is said to love "horses and women - in that order"
- Hart Mackensie: Duke of Kilmorgan, eldest Mackensie son
- Mac Mackensie: An artist who has reconciled with his previously estranged wife, Isabella. Brother to Hart, Cameron, and Ian Mackenzie.
- Ian Mackensie: Considered mad by some, Ian remembers everything, is not tolerant of crowds, and is very literal. His marriage to Beth has been very good thing for him.
