  • Haruhi Suzumiya: Strange and blunt, a freshman high school student only interested in aliens, time travelers, sliders or espers. She creates the SOS Brigade in order to seek fantastic phenomenons.
  • Kyon: The narrator and main protagonist. An average high school student who by coincidence runs into Haruhi and is somewhat forced to befriend her.
  • Yuki Nagato: The quite and aloof sole member of the literacy club. She becomes one of the founding members of the SOS Brigade.
  • Mikuru Asahina: A shy and kind second year high school student forced by Haruhi to join the SOS Brigade because of her "Cute" appeal.
