“Double Meh.”

I can't stand fiction books - even those from my favorite authors - that leave readers hanging at the end.
If the story's going to continue in another installment down the line, give us a hint. If it isn't, give us a hint. Casual readers might not get it, but loyal fans will.”

This is an action-packed, yet romantic story that will have you turning pages until the bittersweet end.”

Start with Devil in a Blue Dress, though. This novel is fine, and strong, but to appreciate the interior conflicts and references to current and former characters, you want to begin at the beginning. The language reflects the streets and the times, so this may not be in your school library. I'd still point it out to older teens living in rough places. Rawlins is best friends with a killer, but adopts a few street kids as his own, works as a janitor in a public school, but is better read than many college graduates. This is a character who speaks the language of Watts, as well as the language of moral authority.”
