I don't think much of models or celebrities writing books, Naomi Campbell (Black Swan), Pamela Anderson (Star) or Nicole Richie (Diamonds) just because they are famous doesn't mean they can write. Perhaps they can ghost-write. Anyway, in so-called real life Paulina Poriskova is a top model, I do know of her as she was a guest judge on the Top Model tv show and then an article in Marie Claire that suggested she had given up modelling for a 'normal' life. What could that be I wonder? Some of the pieces come together in this novel, of course based on her life, made me think why is it that models in general have these horrible mothers and absent fathers who don't look after their daughters? No wonder they want the attention of a camera to fufill their need to be loved. Jirnina, our heroine goes modelling for one summer in Paris and we follow her on various go-and-sees where she gets into scrapes and the seedy side of modelling. Only 15, she gets taken for an adult and is introduced to sex, drugs and debt. I felt sorry for her but she doesn't pack it in to be a nanny and decides she likes the fame instead. As far as it goes it is not too badly written a good insight into the modelling world of 80's Paris.

SPOILER she falls pregnant but no mention is made if she keeps the baby as it ends before we can find out, and that really annoyed me! Another thing I wondered if she ever actually ate, no mention is made of food in the novel so I assume she was stick thin, as she was only 15 and would have had to cook and fend for herself.
