  • Leibold: Captain of the SS in charge of interrogations and Roth's boss.
  • Hirschbiegel: Spoiled Bavarian Corporal who has seen nothing of the war but an office for 3 years. He loves taking baths and listening to "Ma Pomme". Not one to draw the ladies, Hirschbiegel unknowingly helps Roth find a place he can meet Chantal.
  • Henri: Another prisoner being held by the SS or is he? He speaks to Roth using the quatratic code, the German version of Morse through the pipes and helps to set up Roth's escape.
  • Gustave: Owner of the barbarshop where Roth first meets Chantal. He is a member of the Resistance and runs a covert printing press in his cellar.
  • Monsieur Antoine: Corporal Roth's alter ego, his French identity when he is trying to escape the brutality of the interrogation room.
  • Valie: The concierge of the apartment building where Hirschbiegel's apartment is. She assists Roth when he is being pursued by Liebold and the SS.
  • Antoinette: Chantal's baby. Roth believes he is the father as her name would sugget but no one really knows.
  • Jeanne: Chantal's cousin living in the country.
  • Balleroy: The place where Chantal's grandfather lives in the country. It is here she runs to when the German's get too close. It is here that Roth goes to find her.
  • Roth: A corporal in the German Wehrmacht. He is stationed in Occupied Paris because of his fluid French, where he serves as an interpreter.
