• Pat Macgregor: A student at Edinburgh Univ. renting a room at 44 Scotland Street. Works part time in Matthew's art gallery.
• Bertie: A genius 6 year old who can speak Italian and play the saxophone.
• Bruce: Owner of the flat at 44 Scotland Street. A narcissist who thinks every girl is in love with him. His latest girl friend is an American.
• Matthew: Supported through all his business failures by his wealthy father, Matthew is finally turning a profit at his art galley - due in large part to the help of Pat.
• Dr Fairbairn: Bertie's therapist, he's not the expert on children he thinks he is.
• Irene: Bertie's shallow, self-centered mother.
• Angus Lordie: Add a description of this character.
• Gordon: Gordon is Matthew's wealthy father who has fallen in love with a younger woman - a gold digger?
• Big Lou: Owner of the local gathering spot - a coffeehouse. She has literally read a library of books and is ready to discuss any topic.
• Dominica: Married in India and soon widowed is a neighbor of 44 Scotland Street. Witty and worldly-wise her door is always open to Pat who welcomes her advise.
• Tofu: Student in Bertie's class at school - possibly a friend? His father is a vegan - thus the name.
