  • Sally Faye Vierra: One of the protagonists. A "Traveller". She teleports as her power. Originally an "Okie", she was bought by "Travelin Joe" Vierra when he recoginized the signs of her power.
  • Jake Sullivan: One of the protagonists. Jake is a "Heavy", whose power is the ability to manipulate gravity.
  • Delilah Jones: Jake's love interest. Her power is "Brute"
  • Heinrich Koenig: A knight of the Grimnoir. He is a "Fade", who can walk through solid objects
  • Black Jack Pershing: The leader of the more active (or rebellious) chapter of the North American Knights of the Grimnoir, he is working to counteract the rise of the Imperium.
  • Jane: A healer and member of Black Jack Pershing's chapter.
  • Cornelius Gould Stuyvesant: Billionaire industrialist. Only cares about making money, no matter who from. Has a grudge against Pershing.
  • Mr. Harkeness: A "Pale Horse". His magic is disease and death.
  • Isaiah: Servant of Harkness? His magic is "Reading" people
  • The Chairman: Power behind the throne of the Imperium. Has unstoppable magic powers of all kinds.
  • Daniel Garrett: Member of the Grimnoir. He's a "Mouth".
  • Lenny Torrio: Mob Boss. Owes Jake a favour. He's a "Finder"
  • Rokusaburo: Member of the Iron Guard.
