My least favorite of Wilbur Smith’s books so far and I have very much liked the many others I have read. I can’t tell you why this one was not to my liking it just wasn't. It took me forever to finish when the others have been real page turners. It could indeed just be me, but I know of one other...

It took me forever to finish when the others have been real page turners. It could indeed just be me, but I know of one other reader who felt the same about the book.

Perhaps not as gripping as some of his other books, but still worth a read for a Wilbur Smith fan. Especially good as a lead-in for one of my all time favorite books by the same author "Golden Fox".
Wilbur Smith is keenly aware of the political undercurrents prevalent in 1950s/60s South Africa, and his description of Africa is detailed and vivid.

Delve into post-war South Africa with the Courtney family, a family with different members who have different ambitions and personalities but who all love their country, South Africa and its many different creations, though this love at times can cost them dearly. If you want a feel for Africa, its nature and its people read this book. Aaron PS: There are other Wilbur Smith books which are also quite good.

This is such a powerful read. Emotions run so high in these turbulent years of South African history. A must read.
