What an incredible book. I've only read it once, but I really remember it as being an incredible look at Aztec life. There are several scenes in that book that I will absolutely never forget. Anyone who is remotely interested in Aztec life really needs to read this book. But, as others have mentioned, many of the scenes are extremely graphic in nature.

I've read Jenning's 1,000-page "Aztec" a dozen times in my life, more than any other book I believe, the first time being during my own 18-month backpacking trip down the length of Mexico and Central America. It served as my guidebook and even though it was difficult to wield I really couldn't put it down nor did I ever want it to end.
I find the ghost-written sequels to Aztec inferior and redundant, which is perhaps why I so embrace the original.
Despite the torrents of blood, and the blood-warming sexual scenes verging on a xxx-rating, I don't know of any other work that provides as much original research into Aztec history while being so delightful to read. This book really should be on the required reading list of every university course on Latino and ancient indigenous cultures.

ME--So glad you have read Aztec. Before we started our Mexican Adventures I read it, I particularly like Jenning's books. What did you especially like about this one? Marg
