Last of the breed (The Louis L'Amour collection)

by Louis L'Amour

Here is the kind of authentically detailed epic novel that has become Louis L'Amour's hallmark. It is the compelling story of U.S. Air Force Major Joe Mack, a man born out of time. When his experimental aircraft is forced down in Russia and he escapes a Soviet prison camp, he must call upon the ancient skills of his Indian forebears to survive the vast Siberian wilderness. Only one route lies... (read more)

This was a different kind of book for L’Amour. The main character is an Indian who is an Air Force pilot who is forced down by the Soviets during the Cold War because they want to force him to divulge information. He escapes and lives in the wilds of Siberia, making his way to the Bering Strait to escape to America. It’s the best of his long novels I’ve read.

Liked this book enough to read it twice. I'm always intrigued with characters who use their wits, plus the descriptions of Siberia are very interesting.

Definately a good read. This was my third or forth Louis L'Amour book and was quite different than the usual western in it's language and presentation. the Hero is a
little over the top with his abilities but otherwise a good story.

One of Louis Lamour's finest works. If you haven't read it do. If you've read it reread it, it is worth the time spent.

This is the only book I've ever read twice. It was great. Louis L'amour has a great way of taking you exactly where he wants you to be.

Louie L'amoir book. It was okay. A book about survival. Makes you want to go to the wilderness and get away from the daily rut of work.

It is very interesting, but it starts to drag on and on half way through for me. Not as good as Walking Drum, Sacketts and Lonesome Gods, but worth reading if you like survival books and are a L'Amour fan.
