I loved Christopher Pike when I was a kid, so when I saw that he'd written some adult novels, I decided to give one a try. Although it was readable, it was also incredibly formulaic. I might have enjoyed this when I was 12. Maybe.

I love all of Christopher Pike books. I read most of them in high school, but I continue to pick them up when I come across them. I found this one in a Crown Books overstock store. its an advance copy, before edits.

I read Thousand Splendid Suns and Kite Runner the two days before I read Falling, so I was a little worried because they were such excellent books.

This was great though! Not at all like his horror books for youth. It's about a heartbroken guy who plans his own death, the woman who broke hi heart and whos son gets kidnapped, and the female FBI agent working on the case. There are a ton of twists and turns and i didnt want to put it down.

Theres a lot on the FBI agent's previous case- that could be made into its own book, it was such a great gory tale.

Once a brilliant FBI profiler and field agent, Kelly went rogue on her last case, hunting the serial killer known as the Acid Man. Now, still recovering from the madman’s brutal assault, regarded by her fellow agents as a weak link, Kelly struggles to find her footing on a new case: the kidnapping of an infant, Jimmy Techer. Making matters worse, Kelly’s husband has taken their daughter and left. Kelly fears she cannot even trust her own instincts. Matt Connor: Deeply in love with his girlfriend, Matt is devastated when Amy leaves him for another man. He plots a diabolical revenge that begins with his apparent death. By the time Matt is through, Amy—Jimmy’s mother—will know the intensity of Matt’s pain, because it will have become her own. And Matt…Matt will pass through the fires of hell and, in the eyes of baby Jimmy, will recover his soul. Matt Connor is a kidnapper. Kelly Feinman is the agent on his trail. They should be enemies. Instead, they become friends, and together, they help each other become whole.

I'm reading three books at once (I tend to read....alot of books....at once) this one; Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol, and Anthony Zuiker's Level 26. There are remarkable similarities and parallels between all 3. I am enjoying them all. This one had some head shakers (a rogue FBI agent who insisted on investigating ALONE...) but then another character would say what I was thinking, "You are not meant to be an FBI agent, then, it's not how it's done...." The author seems to have a lot to squeeze into a book. Creative and interesting plot.

As a child of the 80's Christopher Pike is a VERY familiar name. His thrillers for teens were on my always buy list. He kept me reading then and didn't disappoint me now as an adult. The story here is fabulous- I couldn't put it down. He keeps you waiting till the very end and though I was disappointed in the choice the character makes- it's all she could do and remain true to herself.

Classic Christopher Pike, once you pick it up, you just can't put it down. His characters are the best and the way that man writes a scene always leaves you wanting more and diving into the next chapter when you know you should be going to sleep.
