• I served 20 years as a police officer. While working in law enforcement I interacted with many sheriff deputies, state troopers' and Department of Natural Resources personnel. During one period of my law enforcement career I worked in the city of Bangor, Michigan. A few miles to Bangor's west was the city of South Haven. The Michigan state police have a Post there called'55.' I knew many of the troopers' from the post. I watched, over the years, as new members' arrived and some who'd been there for a while were transferred out. My story, “Post 55's Newest Recruit” came to me, as a fictional concept of a new recruit's arrival.
