“I was twelve in 1974 when I first read this - it made a huge impression. The only fan letter I've ever written was to James Simon Kunen. He seemed so wise. I ended up going to a very conservative college during the Reagan Administration, and was disappointed that it was nothing like Columbia in 1967. Recently I gave a copy to my 18-year-old-soon-to-go-to-college-herself daughter and she enjoyed it. Which made me re-read it. It's still terrific.”

“Thanks, RobertaRuark, for reminding me about this book. It was a solid read back then, though I wouldn't give Kunen 5 stars (I'm stingier than that), and I found the ending uninspired & uninspiring (I was a pretty callow kid back then).”
