Not only are his characters real and distinct, but NO ONE else would be able to think of these totally original plots, and that's a good thing. I have NEVER read any books that are remotely like his. Plus, he's...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“ Peeps, by Scott Westerfeld, is a book filled with mystery and deception. Cal, the main character, is a man who has a mysterious parasite that most humans commonly know them as vampires. While working with a secret society, Cal runs into Lace, a curious human woman.
What happens in the book is that Cal has to find all of the women he's interacted sexually with because they do have the parasite, which is transfered through certain contact. Throughout the story, Cal must bring these women to the society so that they can be tamed.
What I liked about the book was that you could see the book in Cal's point of view. From this, I can tell that Cal is an interesting person. He is brave and doesn't really want to be a peep.
What I didn't like was how the story flowed; I was confused sometimes. Cal was here, then he was there, then he back there again. I didn't understand. I wouldn't really tell my friends to read this book because of its storyline. The story was a bit interesting, but it lost my attention about half way through the book. ”
“I really liked Peeps. I had a different outtake on what vampires are and how you become a vampire. In movies most of the time its just because you get bitten by a vampire buut in this book the disease is sexually transmitted. I also like how this book is in modern day and not in medieval times. Another thing that I really liked about this book is that it actually seems realistic, like these things can actually happen to people and that somebody right now could be walking around as a vampire and nobody would know.
This story is about a guy named Cal who is a carrier of a parasite that has vampirism. He dedicates his whole life to finding the people that he infected and to find the person that infected him. He mmets a girl named Lace that has a problem about all the apartments on her floor that connects to what Cal is looking for. They set out together to find out what is going on around the city and eventually find the answer when they find a gigantic worm that they have to fight in a subway tunnel. Cal does find the person who infected and he discovers why she infected him.”
“Really freakin good. Some romancey stuff at the end but really good. ”

This is a different look at vampires. Vampires are called peeps (short for parasite-positives), as they are infected by a parasite, which is what turns them into a peep. It is usually transmitted sexually. Cal was 19 when a girl he met at a bar infected him. However, he has some kind of immunity, so he isn't crazy like most peeps, which means he is helping the Night Council hunt and get rid of them. He starts by hunting for the girl who infected him, Morgan. While looking for Morgan, he meets Lace, who tries to help him find her.
It was o.k. I didn't like this one as much as his Uglies series. Definitely a different take on vampires. I did find the extra info about various parasites kind of interesting, and I appreciated the afterword, which explained that all the parasites he talked about in the book are real. I did like the interaction between Lace and Cal. But, the book just wasn't that exciting for me. I didn't realize until after I'd started reading it that there is a sequel. I'm not sure if I'll read it or not.

“I read this for the meeting prep journal and to be honest, it wasn't what I expected it to be like. I didn't like the ending because it like everything was rushed and just skipped like a lot of like scenes. Like it was just rushed. I didn't like the parasite chapters and when it would talk about toxoplasma, and lice and other stuff. Those subjects were only about 4 pages long but it was still distribing I guess and thats the part of the book that I didn't expect it to be. I also didn't really like how in the beggining, how Cal wasn't justn focusing on one girl, he was trying to help Sarah, trying to find Morgen, and then he meets Lace while he is looking for Morgen. He even brings Lace into finding Morgen but I guess that was Lace's fault because she was asking him to go with her and then when they broke into that guy's room because it used to be Morgen's and the person actaully went home.”

I love how the author involes all kinds of diseases that are real. Before every chapter the author Scott Westerfeld talks about one real disease and how it spreads. He goes into a lot of detail about every disease he talk about. This book is just my kind of book.
This book is about a 19 year old boy named Cal who got infected with the peep disease. He got infected by a woman named Morgan. Normally when you get infected you turn into a crazy canable that is scared of everything thing that it loved. Cal is is parisite positive which means that he can control the disease and act like a normal person. ”
“this book is the best book I've read so far this year! :)”
