Know who your real friends are and never be too shy to show your feelings toward a boy. Trust me I know from experience.

Very good! I missed the mini science lessons, but the band factor more than made up for it! I liked that it was from different peoples perspective and that it wasn't from Cal's POV, I think it really made the story much more interesting that you got to see so many different people's perspectives on it. I also thought it was clever that the chapters were all named off of real bands...I love little trivia things like that. I also liked the cover much much better than Peeps cover. I loved loved loved Zahler's made up words. They were fawesome! :P I loved how Minerva would always think to herself, Mustn't eat nice people and lines like that...I don't know why but I thought it extremely humorous. One thing that kind of annoyed me about this book was sometimes a bit confusing because of the different POV, but all in all I loved it!

It's about the end of the world due to a disease caused by vampires.

This is the sequel to the very good book Peeps. Unfortunately, as good as that book was, this one is bad. Whereas the first book had a very interesting story that developed rather well, this one spends the vast majority of the book on the forming of a band, then in a few pages, basically, shows the role of the band in helping to kill the worms.

Which brings up some of the problems of the book.

    1. Night Watch, in its various versions, knew about the worms. They knew about the parasites. Now, unless this is describing an alternative reality where science and technology aren't as advanced as they actually are, then it would have made sense for them to have consulted scientists. They knew the problem for the humans was the parasite. There was time to prepare for that. Scientists probably would have been able to develop something that could have modified the effects of the parasite.

    2. The worms are being fought using swords and by Peeps biting and cutting them. To me, technology has supplied us with weapons that would be rather more effective. For example, flame throwers, hand grenades, proximity bombs, etc. Even the types of cannon used in the Civil War, when they used bits of metal instead of cannonballs, would be able to cut the worms to ribbons.

    3. The necessity of having the band call the worms. Granted, no one seemed to know until late in the book that the music of the band, the vibrations of the music and the people, would call the worms to the surface. Once that was known, though, it would probably be a short matter of time until scientists could make a recording of that music and play it through massive speakers, duplicating the effect of the band but without placing them or people in direct danger. When the worm would appear, then it could be blown to bits.

That's just a few of the problems. The book is, essentially, very boring and almost totally lacking in any logic or recognition that this is the 21st century and not ancient history. It's a massive disappointment, especially considering how good the first book was.

I thought it was better than the first volume especially with the music references rather than the gross out virus stories. But again, not near as good as his Uglies series. I'm definitely done with Scott Westerfeld books.

It was a great book, but Peeps definitely wins. Moz was adorable, and the music spin was really great, but it wasn't one of my favorite books ever.
