This book is an all time favorite. Anne, an orphan, is adopted by a brother and sister. She brings a lot of variety and love into their lives. Great book!

I hadn't read this book in 50 years, but remembered I loved all the "Anne" books as a girl. When I saw that this was the 100 Anniversary of the publication of the first Anne of Green Gables, I planned a trip to Prince Edward Island with my husband. It was a totally delightful experience to see the sights that Anne describes. I read the book aloud to my husband as we drove. Contrary to my expectations, he seemed to enjoy it and look forward to each day's installment. He identified with Anne's mortification about having red hair and agreed with it. (He has red hair.) I would suggest reading this aloud to children under 10 years, then let them read the sequels if they are enamored of it.
