He defines and contextualizes 21st century skills w/o cliche or overstatement contrasting them w/ current practice. He incorporates business voices that reinforce the call for new skill sets. If you can only stand one more education reform book, this might be the one.”

A foundational book for those charting the curricular course from STEM education to STEAM as it emphasizes a role for creativity and emotional intelligence as prerequisite skills for successful students.

“A great book that all educators should read. A little doom and gloom without enough plan for action, but a good analysis of all the problems in education.”

Yes | No“Based on a lot of research, this book shows how government required / State standardized testing is not helping education. Schools end up teaching to the test, which is not interesting for students.
Wagner shows how taking the time to encourage lots more reading, writing, thinking, and creativity instead of teaching to the test result in happier, more successful students, and a side benefit is that they do better on those standardized tests. He also touches on the need to understand and mentor each student and help them realize their life goals.
I was impressed that he used some usability techniques to collect and analyze data. But that's not a big surprise since his work is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.”
