“After the third world war, every continent is destroyed exept for North America because they have the most advanced technology. Rhine lives with her twin brother Rowan in New York after the third world war, until one day she is kidnapped. Linden kidnapped her and some other girls. He chose three and shot the rest the girls. The choosen three girls are to become his wives. It is about Rhine's escape from Linden's mansion.

This is a great book. It never gets boring, and the author is great. Her way of writing sounds poetic, and elegant. ”

“This book was unexpected. I had no idea it was going to be a dark as it was. Very interesting way of taking elements of things that we look down on in society now and making them weave into a sad, haunting story. Like the play on who is good and bad too. ”

“When I bought this book, all I knew was what other people thought of it, that girls die at 20, boys die at 25, and I bought it on sale for $3.00. I figured, what the heck, $3.00 isn't bad, and I hear it's pretty good. I didn't think I would like it at much as I did. While reading felt invested in the characters. I actually began to like Linden, the relationship/love between Rhine and Gabriel is obvious (even though Rhine is seemingly oblivious to it all). I disliked Housemaster Vaughn, and I felt sorry for Jenna.

This story tackles some touchy points; polygamy, kidnapping (often leading to murder or prostitution), and human slavery. It's sad to think that one day we may revert back to that point, and that's what this book does; it makes you think. The story line was really creepy. It's really disheartening knowing that in this world something that almost everyone now wants, the cure for cancer, causes something so much worse. It got me thinking about half way, about how horrible that would be.

I want to add that I did not like the way it was written. I loved the descriptions (even though I got bored a couple of times and skipped whole paragraphs, luckily I didn't miss anything important), but they way the author jumped from scene to scene was a bit much. One paragraph she;ll be talking about a lovely day, then suddenly in the next it's 2 months later. It's a bit frustrating.”

“ANOTHER dystopia, the old generation is desperatlely looking to find a way to save their children, boys die at 25 girls die at 20. Some are so desperate that they kidnap girls, marry them to their sons and experiment on those that die. One girl is fighting back, she will not die a slave to a monster.”

“I did not like this book. The writing is beautiful and the premise interesting, but the world building and characters so ridiculously flawed that I could not bring myself to finish it - there are just too many other compelling reads clambering for my attention on my TBR to waste time on this.

DeStefano has used every cheap shock thrill she can find to bolster her plot: polygamy, under-age sex, rape and murder. Even the continents and ice caps have fallen foul of her pen in an attempt to create a shocking, bleak world!
