    Two Comments:
1 - I don't think we really felt the depth of emotion the author felt as he struggled with the changes in his life - much of it seemed glossed over. 2 - Starbucks didn't save his life - he did that himself. Mr. Gill was smart enough to value humility and respect, brave enough to step out of his comfort zone and re-evaluate his concepts of happiness and success, and determined enough to use Starbucks as the vehicle to achieve these things. Starbucks didn't save him; he used the corporation to save himself.

Pompous fat, old, white guy gets a clue after he's laid off and takes a job at Starbuck's in desperation.

Short and sweet. A nice story about how money doesn't always make you happy and sometimes the unexpected changes in life bring you the most unexpected joys.

In this book, a former marketing boss describes his new career as a Starbucks barista after he loses his job (because he is "too old"). He tells us in a very honest way (although with marketing people, you can never be sure of course) how his experiences were in this new job, which he would formerly have considered way below himself.

He actually finds it very daunting to work behind the check out as he's never been very good with money while his favorite job is cleaning the floors and the toilets.

The book is an easy and pleasant read. It goes on a bit too long, maybe.

I initially thought this book as a fictional one until my cousin whipped out a review she read in a magazine stating that this is actually a true life memoir. I have to say it's written out to quite resemble a perfect memoir... things seem to just fall into place, which is annoying when you realize that it's supposed to be a "true story". But personal grudges aside, it's a nice read, and a sweet one when you get to the parts where the author learns his life lessons - the hard way. The downsides to this book - it makes me feel like conducting a "green apron" experiment myself out of curiosity.

Liked the book. I'm in the same boat now....well that is the "out of work" boat but not the "I'm ready to start at Starbucks" boat. Having been in many a Starbucks in my previous working days, it would seem that not everyone is as happy and satisfied working there as Michael Gates Gill, however it does seem to have the right coffee house "feel" and I would agree most of the folks in the green (or sometimes black) aprons seem content. I also agree with the other reviewers who did not like all the name dropping. The story could have stood on its own without that.
