“This book is awesome! It has everything I want to know from livestock, to the house, to gardening--and though it is not all inclusive (though it nearly is in many cases!) she points you to where you can find more information. She writes from her own experience and you can hear her voice come through clearly. She did lose a star though, because she has bought into all the evolutionary nonsense and that the topsoil I'm gardening in is "millions of years old" etc etc--and that does permeate into some of her advice etc, so I just take those instances with a grain of salt.”

“Written by a back-to-earth-er; it's not a bad book and does contain a LOT of information on how to have a farm, from living frugally and/or off the grid, gardening (actually, it's quite a good resource for gardening), animal husbandry, etc. It's a little uneven in places since it was self-published for the first seven editions, contains personal notes that are jarring at times, and overall gives the impression that ALL consumerism, urban living, etc. is bad and that if we all just switched to cotton clothing and making our own lye soap and canning or freezing everything, the world would be a better place. Perhaps that's right, too, but I can't completely agree.”
