“I picked up this book as a break from reading fiction. I enjoy reading about family relationships and I found this book to be very insightful.
It took me quite a long time to complete the book. The writing style is not one that had my full, undivided attention. But I did find the chapters interesting. For me, the author provided new insights into several different facets of the marriage relationship. On several occasions, he provided research and stories to support the positive aspects of marriage.
Too often today bad examples of marriage are used as an excuse to denigrate the value of marriage in our culture. Bruce Hafen does an outstanding job of not only defending the virtues of the marriage relationship, but also provides us with a vision of how we can make our marriages more enriching and fulfilling.”
“This was a great book that talked about how society is really messing up our mindset when it comes to our marriages. The world wants us to think that it's better to be "individuals" and look after ourselves first. However, in our covenant family relationships, we are the true shepherds, not the hirelings who will run at the first sign of wolves. This book really made me think and I wanted to keep reading (usually I just read books like this on Sundays.) Favorite concept from the book: It was the "At-One-ment", not the "Alone-ment".”
