“My mom recomended this book and I looked at some other members' rating about this book and they said it was sad, but good. So I'm going to try to read it and see if I like it.”

It is without a doubt, one of my favorite books of all time. It hits every emotion and made me laugh and cry. It is beautifully written and I highly recommend it. ”

The whole situation with his mother almost going through the floorboards was funny. I could also identify with some of the small-town aspects of the story...”

It is the only book so far that I actaully concider reading twice. The way the writer describes things in the book is just beautiful. When Reading it, it feels like you are Gilbert. This book is a must read. Peter Hedges knows how to write.”

The movie was a gem, and this book outshines it immensely. I found out the movie was filmed in Manor Downs, Texas, and I lived just outside of there. I remember driving to that town and walking through it, seemingly deserted since it was well after midnight. I could almost feel Gilbert's presence. This an amazing first novel by Peter Hedges.”

At first it was a bit dull and I was anxious to get to the juicy stuff. Most of the classmates liked the book but there were a few that didn't. I personally enjoyed it. Watched the movie afterward which was good also although the character choice for Becky wasn't what I had imagined.”
