  • ameched: To use as a verb as to call on the phone, or noun as an ameche is a phone. Taken after Jim Ameche who played Alexander Graham Bell in the movies. Slang from the 1940's. "Get him on the ameche."
  • clean as a peeled egg: Can mean giving total information or "doing right".
  • shagging: A term that a shamus would use that means to follow someone.
  • Honey Child: An old term of endearment used by the locals to friends, strangers or children. Sometimes shorten to "Honey" or even "Hon." Even men will call other men in the Bluegrass - Honey. I personally use it as I am a beekeeper. Other terms used are Baby, Sweetie or Sugar.
  • shell out, cough up, open up steel safe: Means to talk, to spill one's guts.
  • commenched: Used as a verb. "He commenced to hit on me."
  • Rosebud: Rosebud is a code word meaning help given on the phone when Josiah needs her daughter. Since Josiah loves movies, she has taken Rosebud from Citizen Kane which is the last word uttered by Charles Foster Kane before his death. Throughout the movie, newspaper men try to find out the meaning of the word. It refers to his beloved sled.
