“I sound hypocritical but I cannot feel totally won over by Hemingway's literary style. Beauty of language, vocabulary, expression does add to the beauty of writing. I found the book in the middle sections a bit tedious and over sentimental. 5 stars for breaking everyone's heart on the last page though. As someone said, ''a devastating ending.''. As for me, I never saw it coming. I have a feeling Hemingway got a bit bored with the way book was progressing and he just thought of ending it that way, on a whim.”

“Message was clear, but it was easy to lose track while reading the dialogues. The characters were not very complex. ”

“Not my favorite Lost Generation writer. A little too chauvinistic, misogynistic, and drab. But he did have a way with capturing a character, a story, a time, with minimal words. He was a poet. ”
