“I've always enjoyed Hemingway's style; this was the first time for me to read this book. What a great read! Hemingway intertwines the love story with the war with incredible believability. He makes writing look effortless.”

The character's are substantiated by their memorable dialogue and occassional, unique traits. However, this characterisation somehow fails to translate into depth in a book where the most believable character is the matronly Ferguson, standing out amongst a parade of shallow stereotypes. ”
