If I read a good book, I want to keep reading it, as much as possible, until I'm at the ending. Somehow, Ficciones, by Jorge Luis Borges, didn't persuade me to do either of the above, but rather, it makes me want to read it again....” see full review » see other reviews » |

“Toln, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is the most perfectly written piece of short fiction in the world. Really develops the ideas he put forth in the essay "nueva refutacion del tiempo... Also in this book is La muerte y la brújula, which is a fantastic detective story, very cleverly planned out. Great imagery. Borges had a mind that would push past any wall. ”

“These are the stories that made me a fan of good literature. The story "La ruinas circulares" has haunted my dreams and days. Readers wanting a crisp English version should seek out Andrew Hurley's translation, which is probably the most readily available version, published by Penguin Books.”

“For many years I missed reading Borges. When I finally read Ficciones and El Aleph I knew what I had been missing. Short stories, much easier than people might think, absolutely mind opening. If in Spanish, better!”

“Borges stories are more densely packed with ideas and "facts" than anything else I've ever read. I return to Ficciones again and again and always discover more to ponder and enjoy.”
