“So far....I really don't like Crichton's language. The book took a while to get interesting, about chapter 6....lots of bio-technical/computer jargon. It's interesting now....I'll let you know..”

It gripped me from the beginning and consumed my every thought for the entire day that it took me to read it...and I didn't even read non-stop! This is my second Crichton book and I can see that he expertly blends character development with the science to make both all the more interesting. I was surprised that not only did I understand the technology of what was going on thanks to his explanation, but I also enjoyed and anticipated what was going to happen with/to that technology. Now I know that I'm hooked on Crichton and can't wait to read more.”

The book follows a fulltime dad named Jack and his family as they have jsut moved to Nevada. What seemed to be a simple scientific experiment within a desert facility, has gone completely wrong. A group of micro robots has escaped is now moving through the town. The micro robots are reproducing and are able to adapt and learn as they live. The group of micro robots are alive and moving quickly, the lives of millions of people are now endangered as the micro robots seem impossible to stop. The book was written in a very scientific outlook but was a really intese thriller, and kept me interested the entire time. Teh book followws the characters as they sturggle to find a way to survive the attacking micro robots. I really like the way Crichton captures the fear and sense of hopelessness in the book. I would recommend this book to someone who appreciates science fiction, and wants to read a really intense differnet kind of thriller. The book makes you think about what else is out there, and what we really dont know about technology. I really enjoy that he actually made me feel worried abut possibly being attacked by these micro robots. I didn't sleep for weeks.......”

I learn a lot from Crichton and this was another stunner. Look for the way the nanorobots form a consciousness that desires to replace a human being. This recalls the philosophy of mind argument about the threshold at which point self-consciousness emerges.”
