Funny, this is the Roth book that I didn't want to put down. Essentially I would argue that it's a non-alternate history...if you look closely at the state of our political system.

i have been halfway through this book for about a year now. it tooks months for me to even get a quarter of the way through. everyone once in a blue moon, i'll pick it back up, determined to be interested enough to finish it, and it just doesn't happen. i love philip roth, but this just isn't doing it for me. anyone else have this problem with this book?

I listened to Roth on NPR when he talked about this book. I decided to pick it up and I was impressed. Alternative history books are hit and miss for me. but this one was right on the money

A great book. Slow but intense. And very jewish. Has Roth finally reconciled himsef to his essential Jewishness?
