As any other Hornby book, extremely funny, witty, catchy. Easy to read and very often it made me burst into laugh.

Not sure what I was expecting, but this story was not it. Set from the perspective of a 16 year old guy who gets his girlfriend pregnant. Good read, but slow in parts.

So I have very mixed feelings about this book.

On one hand, it's a plot I love (teenage pregnancy never ceases to make me happy). Nick Hornby's writing also is very good (British!), and is very funny.

On the other hand, Nick Hornby took this book in a very different direction then I expected before I picked up the book. I thought it was going to be a pregnancy story - which it only sort of was. Half the book was Sam before he found out that Alicia was pregnant, and the other half was about her being being pregnant/after the baby is born.

What I also really wasn't a fan of was the parts of the book where he was "whizzed" into the future. It was weird, and I didn't like the jumping out of chronological order (I mean, he did that more subtly too, which also bugged me, but these bugged me by far the most). The second time he did it I didn't even mind it so much, it was just the first. It literally made me almost put the book down.

I also didn't like huge the emphasis on skating. That's nothing against Nick Hornby, really, it just didn't interest me at all. But that's just personal preference stuff.

However, despite all that, the book gets a million Savannah brownie points because he said "Arctic Monkey". I also thought it was very funny the way he incorporated that into the novel! Made me very happy at midnight when I read that.

Slam is a really good book. Its about this guy (his name is sam) thats into skate bording and girls. Its tells about how he met this girl at a party his mom made him go to. They started talking and ended up liking each other. They start dating and the girl ends up pregnet. It tells the guys side of the story, what its like to posably be a dad. It tells if he wants to keep the baby what all he is feeling. To finde out if they keep it and if they stay together and what happens read slam!

Let's just say I've read far better books written by Nick Hornby. This tale of a young skater who makes his girlfriend pregnant is funny at times but rather boring in the long run. The part where he constantly 'talks' with Tony Hawk really doesn't do it for me either.

The story revolves around Sam Jones, a teenager who is thrown into the world of fatherhood at a very young age. The story and theme are very deep and the plot is quite interesting. I found it to be an enjoyable read and I was unable to set the book down. To me, the book represented many things. Hornby is exemplifying the modern world of teenages as he sees it, the book is like a warning to teens that fatherhood at a young age is a very hard thing to cope with. Also, to me, Sam's poster of Tony Hawk in his room is like a representation and substitute for a father figure because Sam feels like he could talk to the poster about all his problems and the Tony Hawk poster would return, in his head, with a reply relating to skating that would somehow have a deeper meaning to Sam that would help him through his problems.
