  • Emily Granby Randolph: Abby's mother, who encouraged her art minded daughter and took her to her first flea markets and auctions. Ex-wife of R. Griffen Randolph. At 54 ran off with Henrietta Potter, her college roommate, later wife of Bickford Potter, Harvard economist, near Nobel lauteate
  • Henrietta Potter: wife of Bickford Potter, Harvard economist, near Nobel lauteate. Mother of Ned and Lavinia. College roommate and later companion of Emily Randolph
  • Ned - Edward Bickford Potter: childhood backdoor neighbor, taught Abby to ride her bike. Lover who used all her closest secrets and included them in a novel with their mothers' affair, breaking her heart.
