“Very slow start. The characters basically only think deep thoughts... very little humor, no friendly sarcasm. I noticed there were also no contractions, even in dialog/conversations (contractions help the characters seem normal).
I couldn't read a few pages without getting a some long paragraphs on someone's deep thoughts about honor, God, war, their lover, etc. I also disliked the way the book jumped from character to character.
Still, after I got past the slow beginning (it took up at least a quarter of the book), it was interesting, if not predictable. One of the main characters, a knight, finds out he is the son of the dead prince. He finds his long-lost mother, and they get all happy (and, of course, think more deep thoughts).
Don't get me wrong...if all of a book is light and fluffy and no one says anything besides idle chatter and witty things, I wouldn't like that book. But this book needs some of that. It just seemed to solemn for me.”
