- Mia Hall: The narrator of If I Stay. She dated Adam for three years until her family died in a car crash in If I Stay. She attended Juilliard and is now a well-known cellist.
- Adam Wilde: The narrator of Where She Went who is a famous rock star. He is suffering from anxiety linked to Mia and is under a lot of pressure from the media and the members of his band. He still loves Mia even though she left him without explanation years ago.
- Bryn Shraeder: Adam's Girlfriend who is a model, an actress, and a producer. Very Pretty and extremely ambitious.
- Aldous: The manager for Adam's band Shooting Star. He is very accomodating, and does his best to cover all the problems that the band is having.
- Liz Phair: An alternative rock artist who went "commercial." Not the "Liz" character in the book.
- Vanessa Legrande: Reporter from Shuffle who interviews Adam in New York City and has done a lot of research on Adam and Shooting Star.
- Ernesto: A friend, seeming boyfriend, of Mia's; a famous conductor.
- Kim Schein: Mia's best friend who has a passion for photography.
- Teddy: Mia's brother who died in a car crash in If I Stay.
- Kat: Mia's mother who died in a car crash in If I Stay
- Denny: Mia's father who died in a car crash in If I Stay
- Mike: Member of the band Shooting Star, bassist, who has some antagonism toward Adam.
- Fitz: Member of the band Shooting Star, rents a house with Adam.
- Liz: A lesbian drummer who recruited Adam for the band that would become Shooting Star. Great sense of humor and extremely fair.
