A friend of mine gave this book to me as a gift, saying that the title pretty much described my life’s philosophy. And happy was I to learn that so many distinguished and talented authors would agree with that philosophy of mine.

Some good short stories, but nothing special. Perhaps noteworthy for the relative filthiness of writing from the 50s and 60s.

Deliciously gritty and down and dirty stories. They are both fun and evil at the same time.

I wish they kept books like this in doctor's office wating rooms-- a whole bunch of short stories that keep your attention without requiring days of investment--

I picked this one up for the title - I'm quitting cigarrettes, and thought I could live vicariously through the stories. I would agree that it's not the best collection of vice stories (often it's the author's most well-known works that show up here, and I would have appreciated more obscure selections) but it's solid, and entertaining at that.

Not the best collection of short work on vice, but they're all good and fun and it definitely looks good on your bookshelf.

This book was a well titled gift. I never did read all of the essays, but really liked the ones I did read.
