History Non-Fiction 617 books / 802 members / 475 posts Anyone who loves History. We can discuss the truth or otherwise of our past, and what proof there is to prove that history actually happened the way they say it did.

This is a group to discuss the many types of biographies, autobiographies and memoirs. If it's a true life story, it belongs in this group. We discuss everything from historical, entertainment, and sports figures, to the common ordinary man.

Please feel free to post any nonfiction life stories to our group shelf. Feel free to start any discussions, but please keep book discussions centered around nonfiction life stories and memoirs.

Audible Books to recommend 545 books / 274 members / 1210 posts I thought it would be nice to have a list of books that people have read that are on audible (downloads from Audible.com & library CDs are my choices). I've created quite a wish list, making sure that it is listing books that can be listened to -- otherwise, no point in thinking about it. We are so lucky to have such an incredible selection of books to listen to now -- it's a whole new world and just in 5 years! I used to read 3 books a year if I was lucky -- now it's more like 30 books now that I can listen -- I love it!!

When members write down the books they have read -- give at lease a two word critique, even if as simple as the star system -- it's more helpful to see that than the list of books one plans to read. Also, mentioning the book name in Comments allows the reader to see what you are referring to when reading from iPhone!
Book Chat 1087 books / 1421 members / 8323 posts Welcome to Book Chat!

Instead of being about a particular book, author or genre this group is about books and reading in general. Discussions have covered a wide variety of topics, from bookmarks, to book type preference (paperback, hardcover or trade paperback) to book-to-movie tie-ins, to where and when you read and even what started you reading.

We also have some fun new projects starting and we hope you will join us.

Tenia has started a Secret Reader (aka Secret Santa) where we will exchange gently used books.

Tenia has also started a monthly book read. Our first group read will start in January and we are currently taking votes on several books that were nominated for the fiction genre.

We are also currently taking nominations for books for February and March. Our February read will be horror and our March read will be chick lit.

A discussion book raffle of sorts will be starting very soon so be sure to check back for details.

Feel free to pop-in and have a look around. We would love to have you join us for some discussion and fun.

Your admins...Kelly and Tenia
50 Book Challenge! 4717 books / 4694 members / 31189 posts Welcome to the 50-Book Challenge! We are not listless. In fact, we love lists ...

A list of the books we've been looking forward to, for example, can be found by following this link:

http://astore.amazon.com/allencotrip-20

Our challenge is to read 50 books in one year. OR ... establish a goal for yourself more or less, it's up to you, just because we say 50 books doesn't mean that has to be your goal too.

To join, all you need to do is start a thread, WITH YOUR NAME IN THE SUBJECT OF YOUR ORIGINAL POST, and log your books (with title and author, please.) Reviews are always welcome as well. It is a very good idea to bookmark your post (when in your post, add it to your internet browser's favorites)for quick access for future updates. Things move quickly around here.

If you haven't been keeping track of the books you've read, start when you join.

I enjoy reading your lists, and my TBR pile has grown as a result and I've read books I wouldn't have otherwise (The Hunger Games, I'm talking to you ...)

It doesn't have to be all lists all the time, though ... People enjoy it when you comment on their lists as well, so when you update your list ... take a minute and browse around. You never know what you might find. (Water For Elephants, I'm talking to you.)

I survey the group each year starting in mid-December, until about mid-January then compile the lists and post the results. I look forward to this year's lists, now that the Twilight fervor has died down.

Thanks for being here and have fun. If you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to contact me.

The Challenged Reader 200 books / 263 members / 5015 posts
The Challenged Reader is a group for people who have so many books waiting to be read, they need a challenge or two to make a dent in their TBR. Join us before your bookshelf collapses!

This group was started after one of our favorite groups, Readers in Thongs (RIT), stopped being active. The Challenged Reader is meant for members of RIT who would like to continue in a similar vein but new members are of course very welcome too!

Join our third challenge "Spring into Summer", running throughout May and June. Count the number of pages you read and earn some extra bonus pages by doing mini-challenges too.

Our first challenge was called "Pages for Pounds" and it was all about losing some weight off your TBR pile. Our second challenge, "Go the Distance", counted how many miles the authors of your books lived away from you.

Do join us, everyone is welcome!
Yorba Linda Moms' Book Club 52 books / 7 members / 0 posts This is a club founded by a few moms about 9 years ago in Yorba Linda, California. It is a book club for social moms. We usually pick the book to read and then spend about 15 minutes discussing it and the other 2 hours drinking wine and enjoying the company. We used to pick a book per month but as our schedules have gotten more busy we now pick and read one book every 6 to 8 weeks. We decided to make this club work, we needed to be flexible. We have never been good at writing down what books we read, but we brainstormed at our last meeting and came up with a list of as many books as we could remember. I have included them her on our shelf. The current book we are reading will be listed as well.
Chronological Read of American History 4 books / 69 members / 1124 posts I have been intending for some time to do a chronological read of American History focusing on presidents mainly. I have seen others who have posted with this intention. I'm going to stop putting it off. Does anyone want to join me and have a discussion?

I figure I will alternate months on thiis endeavor. That way I can get other books in as well. I think I'm going to start with Founding Brothers to give a broad view of the founding fathers and then go to Washington. If you are interested, let's target the read to begin March 1. As move along we can take turns choosing a book. If there is a particularly interesting event or person that is not a president we can throw that in as well.

Let me know if you are interested.

Group Read Central 23 books / 84 members / 83 posts With so many groups out there, how do you keep track of everyone's group reads? Or maybe you would like to discuss one of your favorite books but can't find a place to do it. Maybe your group has group reads but you are really not satisfied with the reader turnout. This is the group to find a group read or readers to fit your needs. It works this way. I will post the different group reads throughout the Shelfari universe. Obviously, I can't do it alone - so if I am not a member of your group and therefore don't know your group reads - post them here! We can also hold discussions as to what reads people would like to have, therefore helping your group. I'm not trying to step on any toes - I'm just trying to help get people to the books they love (or don't know they love yet). If you find that I posted your group read and you would rather I didn't, just contact me and I will remove it with my sincere apologies. So... let's find some group reads!
