An absolutely fascinating account of one of the least known Founding Fathers of the US. Of particular interest was the account of the relationship between Adams and Thomas Jefferson, whose relationship endured a roller-coaster of sorts and whose lives eventually ended on the same day. I highly recommend this book to any student of history.

I can not praise this book enough and it is causing some heated discussions between me and my husband who has always admired Jefferson I on the other hand find him to be a little weak in charater where Adams was so active and yes a plain spoken man, but in in my opinion did more than any of them. He had no money Jefferson was rich and in the book I am reading about his spending sprees around europe. This was not the case with John Adams his country came first and he worked so hard for it.Jefferson when exhausted and fed up went home to rest, John Adams stayed on working even harder. I do not see his Presidency as a failure, he had a large problem to solve...he did not want war with France and so spent his energy whilst in office preventing it.That to me is a successful President. Oh that ours today would have done the same..but thats another story LOL Yes this would be a good book for students of history which I am although not as young as some. I am hoping to read about all the presidents before I croak! Sheila
