Yes | No“This is a bunch of shorter articles that David McCullough has written about various people thorughout American history. Often they are people that had a large impact on their times and hence the future, but of whom we rarely if ever hear about in modern times. It gives an interesting view and insight into more of the history of America (mainly the US although it does include other regions in North and South America.)”

This book is short (by McCullough standards) so don't be frightened away. McCullough talks about how he chooses his topics, how one leads to the other, etc. One of my favorite pieces is "A Day with Robert Plowden." Plowden is a photographer. Much of his career has focused on trains, the rural midwest, and steel mills. These topics are especially engaging since I grew up in the midwest and lived by and had family who worked in the NW Indiana steel mills. This is one of the books that I sometimes re-read (at least parts of).”

Yes | No“I thoroughly enjoyed this book about many different people who have made such an impact on our lives by their accomplishments. Very interesting. We read this in book club and it was well liked.”
