It's been a while since I read a Nora Roberts after I overdosed on them. Sanctuary is one of her back catalogue that I missed first time around, and it has reminded me why I devoted so much time to her.

Although the story is sold as being that of Jo Ellen Hathaway, it actually covers the majority of the Hathaway family, but with hefty chunks devoted to all three Hathaway children.

Twenty years ago Annabelle Hathaway left Sanctuary, along with her husband and three children. They never recovered from her desertion, their relationships are strained and each of them bears the scars of being abandoned. After suffering a nervous breakdown, Jo Ellen returns to Sanctuary, although after fights with her father and both her siblings she wonders why. As she tries to re-cooperate, Jo Ellen has to tangle with the sexy Nathan Delaney, and start to untangle a past that may have followed her back to the Island.

Her Older Brother Brian remained on the Island and devoted his life to running the kitchen in the family hotel. Brian is Bitter with a capital B, and holds a low opinion of women and relationships since his mother walked out on him. But with sexy Dr Kirby Fitzsimmonds moving back to the Island, his devoted attention is split, and Brian doesn't like it. Kirby tries her hardest to win Brian over, but when she realises how much his abandonment issues haunt him, she has all on to keep him.

Lexy Hathaway is the baby, and also the beauty of the family. An aspiring actress Lexy is spoilt and high maintenance, but probably because it is all her family ever expected of her. Fresh from her failure in New York, Lexy wonders if finding the right man will help her get where she needs to be, but when her childhood friend Giff makes his intentions clear Lexy has a shock, convinced that builder Giff is not the one for her, she forces him to seduce her and prove her right, and it won’t be an easy seduction as Giff has loved Lexy forever and understands her better than she understands herself.

Nathan Delaney has had a rough year, and the last thing he expects when he returns to sanctuary is to sort his head out, is to fall head over heels in love with the girl her once pushed in a river. But Nathan has a secret that could tear Jo Ellen's family apart and as mysterious attacks start happening on Sanctuary he is forced to confront the truth and perhaps lose the woman he loves.

The suspense part was very predictable, but overall this was enjoyable and the relationships all worked well.

A really good mystery that kept me guessing, I didn't figure out the villain until almost the end...

Zero stars. This book was awful & barely got through it. Lame story filled with characters without a brain.
