I always change my mind about which of the Chesapeake books is my favourites, but I truly think that Ethan's story is the most touching.

Of the three Quinn men, Ethan is perhaps the one with the hardest background. His story is one of terror and abuse, and sadly sexual abuse. He therefore has the most in common with adopted brother Seth (10) and to help Seth, Ethan needs to face his past. Ethan needs to put his past behind him, to show Seth that he has a future.

This is a book about being given a second chance, and being brave enough to take it. Ethan is a waterman, he's stayed in Chesapeake and knows that's where he belongs. He is the quiet, steady Quinn, who appears to have life under control. But Ethan believes that there are certain things in life that he can't have; a wife and children.

Ethan has loved Grace Monroe for over ten years, but never felt he deserved her. Grace has loved Ethan for about the same length of time, and she knows he cares for her, but wonders if he sees her as a woman. Grace realises that Ethan will never make a move, so sets out to seduce him. Ethan is helpless to resist, but when it comes to a more serious commitment, he feels he has nothing to offer, and Grace can accept nothing less for her and her baby daughter Aubrey.

I cried many times reading this, because there is a good deal of pain mixed in with the love, it truly is a bittersweet omance. As Grace struggles to show Ethan she is a woman, who wants his passion, and Ethan pulls away you want to scream. When Ethan ties to care for Grace and Aubrey, and Grace digs her heels for fear of being called incapable you also want to scream. If it weren't for Seth, you probably would, but Seth and Ethan develop the most beautiful relationship, and they help each other along. There are two scenes in this book that are stupendous. The scene where Sath discovers Ethan and Grace in a tryst, and the scene where Ethan urges Seth to tell Anna the extent of his abuse. Both had me howling, the pain and the quiet understanding, the bravery of a small boy and the man trying to right by him.

In the end, Ethan comes around, and that is all that counts.

LOVE this book. Nora Roberts is great. And you'd never expect all the steamy love scenes either. The characters are great, the story flows naturally and the emotions are so really they had me tearing up. I'd recommend it to anyone. The Quinns are to die for...YUMMY! =)

I really enjoyed this second book in the Quinn Brothers series. This book focuses on the love story between Ethan and Grace, the single mother who cleans their house and who the brothers have known since they were kids. The thread that ties the books together has to do with Seth, the youngest foster brother. The way he ended up as part of the family wasn’t entirely through the proper legal channels, so there is concern about his mother showing up in his life again. That storyline doesn’t really go far in this book, but the stage was set for some dramatic happenings in the next. And, in true Nora Roberts sibling saga fashion, there’s a ghost lurking in the background. I could actually do without that part, but I understand what she’s trying to do. Also, she does a wonderful job of bringing the Chesapeake Bay setting to life. I’ll definitely be finishing this series.

This one was even better than the first in the series...and I thought the first couldn't be topped. Now, I'm sure the next one will be just as wonderful.

book 2 of the Eastern Shore trilogy. This one has Ethan and Grace as the main characters. The Quinn brothers are still looking out for Seth, the newest addition to Ray and Stella's "family" of lost boys. Good little romance.
