Yes | No“ Aly and the Balitangs are back home in the capital of the Copper Isles with the revolution about to begin. Now that Mequen is dead, his 4 year old son Elsren is next on line for the throne. Aly has trained some more spies to help her in her task as the revolution's spymaster. Other revolutionaries, such as Nawat, who Aly is in love with, are spreading the revolution throughout the Isles. The beautiful, charming and rash Sarai captures the hearts of all the raka, who believe her to be their savior, as well as those of the young noblemen, while her younger and wiser sister Dove stands in her shadow, though is also loved by the people. Dove also discovers and joins in the revolution.
As the Balitangs go to parties at the palace, Aly befriends the leader of the kings guard, Taybor Sigbit, and Sarai falls in love with a foreign noble, Zaimid Hetnim. Sarai eventually runs away with Zaimid, crushing the hearts of the raka who thought she would be their queen. Their hope is restored as Dove steps up to take her place. Meanwhile, Aly receives a gift of darklings from her aunt Daine in Tortall. Darklings are dark blobs that can be used as spies to give Aly information from wherever she puts them. The darklings give Aly all the information she needs of the regent's (Rubinyan and Imajane) plans.
The darklings however don't find out about a very secret plan to kill both the child king and his heir Elsren, which they carry out by sinking the king's birthday ship, which only he and his young friends were on. The regents then proclaim themselves rulers and hatred towards them grows. The revolution finally begins when Imajane and Rubinyan, noticing how popular she is, try to have Dove assassinated. The following fighting in the streets does not die down, but spreads. As the revolutionaries attack the castle, many die, including Ulasim and his mother and daughter, and many of Aly's spies. The attack however is a success and Dove fulfills the prophecy and becomes the twice royal queen while Aly, instead of going home, stays on as her spymaster and marries Nawat.
I really liked this book, even more then the last one. I liked it because there is more about spying then in the last book and there are also more references to people from her previous books about Aly's family. I also liked seeing how the revolution managed to slowly overthrow the government and the twist of how Dove became queen instead of Sarai. I would recommend this book to people who like Tamora Pierce or spy books. ”
