I enjoyed reading this book because the protagonist was not your cookie-cutter teenage girl. She liked football, she ran her family's farm, she was not an A student. I could actually identify with her and the feelings she experienced. A YA novel with more than what's on the surface. Metaphors and...

D.J. has been put in charge of her family's farm. A good family friend, who coaches football for a rival school district, sends that team's star player to the farm for "boot camp," D.J. is pushed and challenged more than ever. However, through her experience as trainer, she is finally able to express her emotions new and old.

"When you don't talk, there's a lot of stuff that ends up not getting said." Fifteen-year-old D.J. learns to communicate with her family & friends after spending the summer training the quarterback of her high school's rival football team. While D.J. has always been a physically strong female protagonist (hence her ability to tryout for her h.s.'s all-male football team later on in the novel), her self-confidence positively improves by the end of this novel. Through D.J., readers will gain a new perspective on intelligence and beauty that is outside of the box.

This story centers on D.J. Schwenk and her dairy farming family. The family and the entire town is football crazy! Since D.J.'s 2 older brothers are football geniuses, and her dad is a good friend of a cross-town rival school's coach, D.J. is enlisted to help the enemy's quarterback during the summer. D.J. and B
Brian's training leads to a close friendship that Brian wants to keep a secret. But D.J. is also harboring a secret...she wants to play football. But that would mean playing against Brian! Can their friendship/romance survive the insult?
