Another smooth, romantic thriller by Nora Roberts. She only gets better and better and I appreciate the freshness of her books.

Police Lieutenant Phoebe McNamara is a hostage negotiator, a calling she came to after being a hostage herself as a young girl. She’s a professional and she’s good at what she does, but not every situation can come to a successful ending.
With one exception, Phoebe has the respect of her peers. Her home life includes her seven-year-old daughter and an agoraphobic mother. Duncan Swift meets Phoebe when she talks one of his employees off a rooftop. The attraction is mutual, and Phoebe, who has been committed to travelling her life solo, finds that having a loving partner can enhance life and ease some of the burdens. Then she is brutally attacked in the precinct house and disgusting messages appear on the steps of her home and life begins to take a terrifying turn. There was a blizzard near my home, but this book kept me in good company during the storm

Hostage negotiator Lieutenant Phoebe MacNamara knew at a young age what she was good at, she had seen it from the hostage point of view. Years of dedication put her on the top, and to some, a women should not be in that positon. The personal attack she found herself in made her consider all of the people in her life, her new guy Duncan Swift, she had met him just after talking one of his former employees off the ledge, her agoraphobic mother, who had refused to leave the house even though that long ago monster had been dealt with, and her daughter, that lovely seven year old. Phoebe has the strength of will, but will she find the right tactic before everything she has ever wanted is taken from her?

This story is really good, it has a lot of twists, some of them expected and some of them just great. I always enjoy Nora Roberts as a romance writer, she has added a lot of the thriller/suspense to this book that was fabulous to see mixed in. I think I fell in love with Duncan and his easy way of making everyone around him so relaxed and safe at the same time even though he really didn't do anything, Phoebe was the hero over and over again. I wanted to see Meeks say something to her in the end.

Most people hear “Nora Roberts” and think of sappy, mushy romance novels with no substance. I used to be one of those people until I decided to read High Noon. High Noon is a romantic thriller revolving around Lieutenant Phoebe MacNamara, a hostage negotiator and single mother struggling to balance her family and career. As Phoebe is starting a relationship with breezy carefree lottery winner Duncan, she is stalked by a vicious murderer intent on destroying her and all that is precious in her life. She is attacked in her precinct and woodland creatures are brutally killed and deposited at her doorstep, but Duncan stays with her and provides support as she searches for her malicious tormenter.
Some may be turned off by the length of this book, (467 pages), but every page was necessary; none of it was just aimless filler chapters. Roberts uses an alternating third person omniscient point of view to express the feelings and thoughts of different characters. The book never lagged at all which was surprising due to its length. I was always engrossed in the story and didn’t want to stop reading it. Part of the reason I enjoyed it so much is because Phoebe, the main character, was not your average run-of-the-mill female lead who required a man to protect her. She was strong and independent and never subservient or meek. She takes charge of her own life and a lot of women in the real world could stand to be more like her. I also liked that romance was not the main aspect of the book. It was more of a mystery/thriller than a love story. And what romance was in it was not tortured and depressing. Sure, Phoebe and Duncan had their troubles, but they weren’t overbearing. Their relationship remained fun and sweet. Something I didn’t like was that the end wasn’t exactly rushed but it was abrupt. The climax was in the literal last few pages of the novel and then it ended. There was no wrapping up and clarifying things. It just ended. There were a few loose ends, not important enough to make me like the book any less, but it was annoying, nonetheless.
Overall, I would recommend High Noon to any woman. It’s a great book with a well-balanced mix of suspense and romance that is sure to keep you interested. It has an intricate plot that keeps you guessing and is not predictable. Just when you think you’ve got things figured out, there’s a twist that proves you wrong. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and never bored.

I am highly into this book. I really like the woman in this book Phoebe MacNamara who is a hard working woman, a loving mother and a loving daughter to her mother. She is a woman who is able to handle her work and her life. She is a hostage/crisis negotiator and she suddenly finds this guy Duncan Swift while on her job. The story is quite absorbing.

High Noon is well worth reading and I found that Nora Roberts is quite a writer. I highly recommend this book.

In this book, Officer Pheobe MacNamara is a single mother that is a negotiator for the police department. When Pheobe was young, her and her family were held in a hostage situation. Dave, the negotiator at this time, was her new hero. Years later after following in his footsteps, she is called to a hostage scene too late and Officer Arnie Meeks blames Pheobe for the death. She is being stalked and harassed, but along the way she finds love with Duncan. This book is the adventurous journey to happiness and peace.

It took a while before this story got into me but when it did, there was no stopping me. I love how the suspense was built up and I love the characters in it especially Duncan (the man of my dreams, so to speak). Great read!

This was great. There were parts that really kept me on the edge of my seat. Even though it contained a tad bit cheesy of a love story. Still cute, reminded me a bit of Janet Evanovich's re-released romance novels.

Romantic suspense and Nora Roberts go hand-in-hand. I truly enjoyed this story of Phoebe, a hostage negotiator, and Duncan, a man who is unlike any you've ever read about before!

    This is a great read.
