I tried to ignore the reviews of this book because I enjoyed The Lovely Bones so much. While it had its moments (which were few and far between) I can't say that I enjoyed reading this book. I didn't care for, or about, any of the characters. The ending sucked. Wish I'd read it in paperback or got it from the Library - and not wasted the full price on hardcover.

I'm with you on this book. The ending really did it for me. I didn't like the book all that much, but was kind of curious to see how it would turn out. And when I got to the last line, I almost threw the book away. Talk about a bad ending. Ugh. I must have had a guardian angel watching over me when I decided to borrow this book from the library and not spend a penny on it.

Hate to add to dumping on this book, but I too was so disapointed, though I read through its darkness...I was so upset with the ending! Why? I am going to begin LUCKY soon, and I sure do hope Alice earns my respect for that book. Truth be told, I was not challenged to pick the book up and read it...seemed to grab me for some reason...maybe it's because it was so strange. If anyone thinks Lucky is the same kind of book, please inform before I purchase it. Thanks...

Lucky is also a dark story, but is very good and doesn't compare to this one at all.

I couldn't agree with you more. I couldn't have said it better myself. I was engaged in the story, and I wanted to see what would happen, and as soon as I finished it I was instantly pissed. It was dissapointing especially in comparison with the Lovely Bones. I do like how Alice Sebold writes, and I do think she has unique story plots, but the ending of this book was bad. I felt like there wasn't much effort into an end like that. Anyone could have left it dangling like that. I am in the middle of Lucky right now. We will see.
