“I loved "Lovely Bones" and "Lucky," and I am...” (more)
My expectations for this book were way too high. It was good but will not have the YA appeal of The Lovely Bones. I still think her first book - Lucky - was her best.
I tried to ignore the reviews of this book because I enjoyed The Lovely Bones so much. While it had its moments (which were few and far between) I can't say that I enjoyed reading this book. I didn't care for, or about, any of the characters. The ending sucked. Wish I'd read it in paperback or got it from the Library - and not wasted the full price on hardcover.
Definately not as good as The Lovely Bones. It was readable but not at all moving. I will bump it up the 3 stars because I did enjoy the plot line about the father. Only an "ok" book.
:The Lovely Bones" is one of my all time favorite books, so I have been looking forward to Sebold's new book. I have been trying for 2 days to read this and have not been able to get past the first 50 pages. It is just awful and I am giving up.
So far I'm waiting to like it better...
Blehhh. That's about it.
Oh, Alice, I had such high hopes. The Lovely Bones was so wonderful, so un-put-down-able. And after years of waiting for a follow-up, we get this? This was boring, tired, and blank. Lady, you phoned it in.
I was expecting more of this book. This book does not pull you in enough to sympathize with the main character. Your left feeling empty, and bummed that you spent so much time hoping for it to get better. It just ends. It is to bad, because the author is capable of much more.
very disappointed with this book. i thought the previous book by sebold "lovely bones" was extraordinary. this wasn't for me...but i will be looking forward to the next sebold.
Although well written, I found this book disturbing, and struggled to finish it. I absolutely loved her previous work, The Lovely Bones, but was disappointed in this one.
