“I loved, loved ,loved, this book. It was amazingly intelligent, well written, and totally captivating. The story was good - but the insights into life, people, and relationships were even more compelling. It wasn't an easy read, but was so worth the effort. It is rare to find a book of fiction that combines a compelling plot line with astute philisophical and psychological insights - without being preachy or obvious. It's also an example of excellent characterization - and the study of one man's life and what motivates and drives him... This is a book worthy of my top 10,and of long hours of discussion. I turned down page after page, because I wanted to copy the text into a notebook of quotes and lines from books that particularly speak to me. I can't agree with the poor reviews given below.”
“I slogged my way through almost to the end and finally gave up and read the last chapter. I could not figure out where he was or had been most of the time. Mostly I am glad to have it off my "reading" list.”
“I gave up after about a 1/3 of the book. I just don't understand why the main character goes to see these different people and places that he does (maybe it's clear to a very attentive reader, but I don't see how he knows where to go), and I thought he did not know the girl before she was kidnapped, but then it turned out he dropped her home a few times the year before. I am too confused about this book, I give up! I must say that Miss Smilla is one of my all-time favourite books, but any other books by Peter Hoeg that I have attempted I have not liked at all. A pity.”
“I've just started reading this book and my first impression is that it is poorly traslated. I wish I were fluent in Danish to see if it's more readable! Also, I'm having a hard time figuring out what's going on...”
“Page 78 was a magic number...that's how far I made it before I lost interest, I saw a previous review said the same of it. It did not come together for me.”
