It was a beautiful evening at Viamede - the sun was nearing his setting, shadows were sleeping here and there upon the velvey lawn, the blossoming flowers filled the air with their delicious perfume, the waters of the bayou beyond reflected the roseate hues of the sunset clouds, and the song of some oarsmen in a passing boat came to the ear in pleasantly mellowed tones.
