Great book! The book made you sympathise with both Rambo and Teasle, both beaing equally wrong and right. I will definitely pick up another book by Morrell

This is the first book written by David Morell that I read. I fell in love with his fast paced writing style and continue to read his books.

Great book...you can see why they wanted to make a film of it...of course, the book ends so much better than the film, but ain't that always the way?

The book that spawned Rambo; good fast read but if you've already seen the movie, it pales in comparison.

Soldiers returning from Vietnam were ostracised by US citizens for fighting in a war they didn't want. “First Blood” explores the damage caused to those young men by the horrors of war and the excommunication from the country they fought to protect.

'Nam veteran Rambo, an exceptional soldier decorated with the Congressional Medal of Honour, has become a deranged vagrant who drifts through America. In the sleepy town of Madison, he is abused by local police and snaps before fleeing into the nearby woods. From here, he is able to revisit the Vietnam War in microcosm, turning from hunted to the hunter on his pursuers. What ensues is an escalation of meaningless violence leading into the inevitable, riveting conclusion.

“First Blood” equally emphasises the two main characters, Rambo and Chief-of-Police Wilfred Teasle. The reader equally sympathises with and is reviled by both characters, both war veterans, and it is unclear who is the protagonist and who is the antagonist. The story is essentially a manhunt, well written, fast-paced and gripping.

Far different book than the movie. Excellent read and a insightful look at the way we as a society view our military. Very recommended

sly messed this movie up and turned the character of john rambo into a bad action hero when he was meant to be a social commentary on how this country mistreated soldiers returning from Vietnam. If you haven't seen the movie read the book first if you have seen the movie please give the book a shot.

This book introduced the character of John Rambo, later to become the protagonist in a couple of appalling movies. The Stallone character bears very little resemblance to Morrell's creation and the creator's of the movie franchise have made no effort to understand the ideas of this novel. This book is well worth the read as it captures the alienation felt by many returning Vietnam vets and the hostility they felt and received. In movie terms it is much more Deer Hunter than Rambo. The book is not a classic but it is a good story well written and, while not up to his Rose Trilogy, it is still worth a look.
